Chihuahuas Seal Their Puppy Love with a Heartwarming Shelter Wedding
It’s wedding season, and love is in the air for a pair of “nutty” shelter dogs.
Cashew and Peanut are Chihuahua mixes who were surrendered separately to the San Antonio Humane Society when their owners could no longer care for them. When both dogs were sent for dental surgery at the same time, their paths crossed. It was love at first sight!
In an effort to drum up attention for these two cuties, SAHS decided to unite Cashew and Peanut into the ultimate “mixed nut” couple. They held a small wedding ceremony featuring 9-year-old Peanut and 3-year-old Cashew as the bride and groom, and the photos are just plain adorable!
In a statement, SAHS Public Relations Associate Lucia Almanza describes the two dogs as “inseparable.”
Shelter workers clearly had a lot of fun arranging this wedding! They crafted a tiny wedding chapel, dressed the dogs up in a wedding veil and a tuxedo, and even got the happy couple a dog-friendly wedding cake.
“To celebrate their love and recovery journey, the SAHS held a small, intimate wedding ceremony today surrounded by staff, volunteers and closest friends,” Lucia wrote. “The event included a beautiful walk down the aisle, bubbles, music, and cake, of course.”
Both Peanut and Cashew are now fully vetted and waiting for the right person, or people, to adopt them. The shelter hopes that they can get adopted together, but admits that their romance may be more of a “short summer fling” than a lasting union.
“How does the saying go? ‘Til adoption do us part? Something like that!” they stated.
If you live in the San Antonio area, you might be just the person these love birds need! How could we ever separate such a paws-actively adorable couple?
